Ceramic Tile

Tile is easy to clean, and gives a clean, classy air to any room you install it in.

There are different qualities of ceramic tiles, starting with different raw materials and ranging through different firing processes to different glazing applications. Floor tiles are rated for glaze wear and slip resistance, both factors important to consider. Glaze ratings should exceed 3 for residential applications - except in bathrooms where a rating of 2 is sufficient. Indoor tiles should have a slip resistance rating of .5 or better.

If you're thinking about installing ceramic tile, starting with the correct subfloor system and setting materials is crucial. A double subfloor system with a total thickness of 1-1/4 inch over floor joists 16 inch on center is required. The top subfloor layer should be exterior grade plywood or an underlayment specifically designed for ceramic tile installation, like cementous backerboard.

If you don't provide the proper subfloor work, it can cause grout to crack and release or even tile to crack.
